Being Set Free from Addiction

Today I gave a lesson in relief society on Elder M. Russell Ballard's talk. "Oh that Cunning Plan of the Evil One" I wanted to share both my feelings and touch on the doctrine that Elder Ballard teaches so this morning I wrote a poem. Before reading my poem, I invite you to watch the video below where you will hear parts of Elder Ballard's talk.

You’ll be Free

One day I heard a voice.

"Partake and you’ll be free."

Never in this body of mine

will I partake of thee.

One day I heard a voice.

"Partake and you’ll be free."

Maybe.... No, never

will I ever partake of thee!

One day I heard a voice

"Partake and you’ll be free."

Ok. I’ll try just a little

if you promise to let me be.

One day I heard a voice

"Partake and you’ll be free."

Hey! You broke our deal.

Why are you still pestering me?

One day I heard a voice

"Partake and you’ll be free."

No hesitation. I partake.

and then I feel guilty.

One day I heard a voice

"Partake and you’ll be free."

I really wish you would stop.

You’re starting to hurt me.

One day I heard a voice

"Partake and you’ll be free."

I hate you, yet I love you.

why can’t I let you be.

One day I heard a voice

"Partake and you’ll be free."

Your nothing but empty pleasure

void of integrity.

One day I heard a voice

"Partake and you'll be free."

beaten and exhausted,

I cry on bended knee.

One day I heard a voice

"Partake and you’ll be free"

Dear God, please help me stop.

Fervently, I plea.

One day I heard a voice.

It whispered in my ear

Child I love you.

There is no need to fear.

Satan has you in his grip,

but I am by your side.

Pray to me with all your heart

and I will be your guide.

You are in chains,

but I have the key.

Hope is alive

when you stay close to me.

The road will be rough,

but at last you will be freed

if you listen to my voice

and to my word, give heed.

Years have past

as I have been at war

with the enemy of my soul

whom I am learning to ignore.

Sometimes I fight

and sometimes I walk away.

Sometimes I even

invite him in to stay.

But never do I stop

returning to my knees,

and every time I do,

my pain, He doth ease.

One day I will hear a voice

"Child, You have believed.

Together we have triumphed.

Rejoice. You are freed."
